Formed in 1969 in the (now closed) Vigo Inn, Vigo RFC have gone from strength to strength, at the present time playing in London South-East 3, where they are more than holding their own against some bigger clubs. Vigo RFC run three senior teams, and also a Vets XV (who won the Vets Bowl in the 2018-19 season). Training, under floodlights, are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
They also run a thriving Junior section for boys aged 4 to 17. There are also girls who play rugby from 4 to 11 years old. The youngest play ‘Tag Rugby’ progressing through to contact as they get older. Qualified and fully accredited coaches ensure the safety and education in the sport all through the age ranges.
Needless to say, the bar is the focal point of the Club (for adults, I hasten to add!), and is fully stocked with highly competitive prices. We have recently purchased brand new tables and chairs for functions, and a brand new patio has been built which add to the great ambience at the Club. The kitchen is open on Tuesday evenings, Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings and is becoming more and more popular with a wide range of foodstuffs available, even vegetarian options, as well as coffee, tea and hot chocolate, an absolute must during the cold winter months.
Through the season , there are various events held at the Club, details of which can be found on the Club website https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/vigorfc.
The Club has always prided itself on its friendliness and socialisation, having won on two occasions the title of ‘the Friendliest Rugby Club in Kent’ awarded by the RFU. We welcome players of all abilities, and will hope to establish a Ladies Team in the future. To have risen to the present level is an indication of the ambition and appeal the Club holds in the area.
