Residents celebrate Platinum Jubilee with joyous street parties

Northumberland Road Platinum Jubilee ‘The Big Lunch Street Party’

Neighbours, family and friends came together on Sunday 5th July to celebrate the Queens Platinum ‘Big Lunch’.

With the road closed off (thanks to the teams at Gravesham Borough Council and Kent County Council) gazebo’s, tables, chairs were placed along the road allowing everyone to celebrate safely.

A special ‘thank you’ must go to Jason and the BBQ team who cooked burgers and sausages for everyone to enjoy and young Willow who provided children’s transfers.

At 3pm everyone joined in singing the national anthem, while enjoying a glass of bubbly and Platinum Jubilee cup cake.

As part of the event residents welcomed any donations to the charity Stand up to Cancer which has now raised an amazing £356.00.

And lastly a huge ‘thank you’ to all residents who decorated the front of their properties with flags and bunting, all helping to ensure the road look wonderful.

Haven Close’ celebrated the Jubilee with a street party

Neighbours in Haven Close came together to celebrate the Queens’s Platinum Jubilee with a good old fashioned street party.

The street party consisted of two quizzes one on the Royal Family and the other on general knowledge. Two egg and spoon races also took place and the losers were pie faced with cream which created hysterics amongst the residents. A special throne was also created and crafted by Vic Newberry as a centre piece for the celebrations. Residents were all photographed sitting on the throne with a mask of a Royal family member which created much laughter and fun to the proceedings.

Music was played representing every decade of her Majesty’s time on the throne and the afternoon was concluded with a toast to her Majesty and songs such as Rule Britannia, Land Of Hope and Glory and God Save the Queen which residents enjoyed enthusiastically and celebrations went on late into the evening.

40 residents including family and friends took part during the day!

A huge thank you goes to Annette Schiavi, Vic & Jill Newberry who organised the day. They commented “It was such a nice day to celebrate with our neighbours following on from the very successful Bank Holiday Quiz last year”.

“I’m sure everyone had a great time, lots of fun and laughter. We are part of a close knit community in Istead Rise and lockdown brought the residents of Haven Close even closer, we hope it will continue into the future, thank you to everyone for your company and contributions to our Platinum Jubilee party”.

The winner of the Royal quiz was the ‘Dog Walkers’ with 21 points and for the General Knowledge quiz was the ‘Red Arrows’ with 17 points. The winning teams were both delighted!
