With a long history dating from 1776, the official foundation year of the club, cricket on Meopham Green has remained a prominent feature of the village for nearly 250 years. Surrounded by cottages, two pubs and the windmill, the club can genuinely lay claim to being one of the prettiest grounds to play at within Kent, if not the country.
Playing set up
The club fields two adult sides on a Saturday, competing in the Kent County Village League Division 1 (1st XI) and Division 4 (2nd XI). The Kent County Cricket League is made up of like minded village sides throughout the county, also at many beautiful grounds, and has a strong code of conduct ensuring that the ‘spirit of cricket’ is always upheld.
On a Sunday, the club fields a friendly XI, games played at a slightly more sedate pace than a Saturday, and a good opportunity to give younger players exposure to adult cricket.
Training and coaching
There are two permanent nets on the Green, members are free to use these any time. Plus, there are training sessions throughout the year. In the winter, the club holds pre season nets at Gravesend Grammar School, and regular sessions are held on weekday evenings throughout the summer.
A number of ECB qualified coaches play for the club, these are heavily involved in the development of our juniors. Senior members are actively encouraged to book private coaching sessions for development of technique or problem solving.
Adult membership
Adult playing membership costs £60 per year, with a match fee of £10 payable each game played. When compared to the costs payable to play other sports (golf, tennis) this is great value.
We are always seeking new experienced adult players, so if you are a lapsed cricketer pick up the phone or drop us an enquiry now.
Junior membership
Being a small club surrounded by some more illustrious neighbours, it is vital that the club grows its own talent. The club has a thriving junior section, from age groups under 9 to under 16, this supported by a number of qualified coaches as mentioned earlier. A large percentage of our adult players have been produced through the youth system. We are always looking for enthusiastic youngsters, boys or girls, so feel free to make an enquiry. Annual membership includes all summer and winter coaching with a small match fee payable when playing games.
Ladies cricket
We have a growing pool of ladies who play a few friendly games each summer. If you would like to get involved, or learn a bit more then make contact.
Social membership
If you don’t play cricket but would like to support your local club, enjoy the cheap bar and facilities, then a social membership is available at £15 per year.
Safeguarding
The club takes its safeguarding responsibilities seriously. All club officials are DBS checked. For any queries please contact our Child Welfare Officer Paula Kerr at paulakerr@btinternet.com
Social events
Throughout the year the club holds assorted social and fund raising events; from quiz nights, dinners, Christmas party, Burns night and more.
