An awards ceremony was held on Saturday 7th May at the Istead Rise Community Centre. Each player received a recognition trophy to celebrate their hard work and commitment throughout the season. Individual trophies were also awarded across several categories.

This is the first season the U8 Colts were able to play in the North Kent League competition and they impressively remained unbeaten until January. Due to their success, they were then promoted to a higher league and were successful in reaching two league cup competition quarter finals.
Manager & Coach, Antony Slee, who presented the awards, along with Nick Taylor and Michael Robinson, is thrilled with this season’s successes, saying: “I was so proud to see how the players have developed and what they have achieved over the season and also delighted to see the fun they’ve had in doing so. We have a special group of players here”.
Michael Robinson, from the United States and therefore more used to the American game, refers to the different style of football he now helps to coach: “Here it’s more of a game of finesse – the boys adapted well being moved up a level mid-season. Our defensive play was stellar, the rock of the team”. Michael is highly optimistic for the next season; “Going forward to 7 vs 7 we will be stepping up in competition knowing the boys can compete at that level”.
Comments from the boys themselves further illustrate their pride and joy. Jack, age 7 said “I feel so proud to have received three big trophies to display on my shelf at home”. Team captain Riley, age 8 said “It really was a team effort and I received my trophy for being the best goalkeeper in the league. Eight year old defender Josh said “I am so proud of myself and the team – We have trained extremely hard and I was so happy to receive the Parents Player Trophy. Tiger, the teams 7 year old striker said “I feel so happy to receive the recognition of Most Improved Player and didn’t expect to receive this trophy”. Defender and top goal scorer Thomas said “I’m so excited about how the season has gone and I’m so happy with how many goals I’ve scored for the team”.
Sounds like the future bodes well for Istead United Colts!
