The Istead Rise Footpaths Group has been in existence for over 50 years. It was started by advertising a meeting in November 1970 in the Memorial Hall for anyone interested in walking, learning about the local area and footpaths. A steering group was formed and our first walk in March 1971 attracted 34 people.
Since then we have had a monthly walk either starting from the school or driving to a local starting point and walking from there to explore somewhere different. Over the years we have walked nearly every footpath in the area. We have had all day, morning, afternoon and evening walks and in all sorts of weather. Distances have varied from 2-3 to 10-12 miles. Various other activities have been added according to the requirements of those involved including days out, camping trips, campfires and social events. Our latest venture being a short week away to a different part of the country.
We are a friendly, family orientated and social group and pace our walks to suit everyone attending. All are welcome from young children to pensioners and dogs under control.
