As a community, I am so proud in how we came together to celebrate VE Day!
A special well done to all the residents, especially of Northumberland Rd and Haven Close your decorations and 1940’s fashion were amazing!, especially Bonnie Ingram and her daughter Grace, 8 who were dressed as land girls!
A small mention to Sarah Harrison and Susan & Chelsea Shelton for coordinating the fundraising efforts in Haven Close and raising over £250 for the Ellenor Hospice.
Mandy Edmeades, a resident from Haven Close said
“It was wonderful to be able to help the Ellenor, whist having so much fun. Well done to everyone in Haven Close.”
I was delighted to see so many stay-at-home tea, cake and catch up’s with their neighbours and especially the live music and singing of war songs.
I think what was lovely, was how residents shared their stories of how they celebrated VE Day in 1945. Christine Harden, a resident from Istead Rise shared a photo of her celebrating VE Day in 1945.
I was touched by how many residents were remembering love ones throughout the day! Pauline Abbott, a resident from Hill Close had a very touching display of photos of family, who had played an active part in the Second World War. It was lovely to hear from her, about why VE Day was such an important day to celebrate!
We as a community, should be so proud of what we achieved on the 75th VE Day Anniversary.
I hope you enjoy viewing the gallery and video clip from the day. Photography courtesy of Harriet Howes.
